Gail is in the other room, talking with her
cousin. We just found out that Gail's stepfather has
just passed away. Her mother died a couple of years
ago. I have listened to Gail speak of him many times
over our married life. I met him only a couple of times,
back in the seventies. This was before Gail and I were
married. Families become estranged for all sorts of
reasons. Sometimes for reasons that really make no
sense.
I have heard Gail speak of him many times over the
years. And it was always with love and affection. All
of the little trips they took together, the Sunday matinee
movies they went to, the carnival visits up in Maine, and
numerous stories. The same applies to her mother. We knew
that he was in assisted living and that it was only a matter
of time. But there is still a sense of loss.
Over the years I hear the stories of her childhood and
the love that these two people gave her. I am actually
envious, sad to say. Mine was the opposite.
Thank you Bill and June. All those qualities that you strove
to instill in your child are still there. A little bruised, but
hanging in there.
All for now. Ken
