For those of you that are interested in this
sort of thing, on the fourth DVD of "Boardwalk Empire",
are some extra bits. The first of these is a brief
history of Atlantic City and a few of it's illustrious
characters and past. The second set of extras is a tour of
some of the speakeasy's of the day that are still remaining.
So you get to see several in Chicago and several famous
ones in NYC as well. All sorts of hidden exits and concealed
liquor vaults. These places are now icons of the city, but
what truly amazed me was the woodwork, metalwork, glass
and detailing on the interior of these " illegal drinking
parlours". Elegance, is the best description that I could
give you.
It's always the eye for even the smallest little detail
that makes it really sing out to you. That "majestic"
ambiance. It's like going to a Sunday tea at The Willard
Hotel", in Washington D. C. History just permeates the
whole structure.
I remember a couple of people telling me, upon their
return from a visit back east, that they didn't care for
it because "Everything looked so old". Vapid, truly
vapid. Attempting to point out any sort of historical
events would be a total waste of time. Some people
just don't see the beauty. Can't see the trees for the
forest, is the expression that comes to mind.
Anyway, if you should happen to rent or purchase
these DVDs, don't forget to check these extras out.
Well worth your investment in time.
So is that PBS documentary on New York City.
The photo's, newsreel footage, and the narration
are exceptional.
That's about it for this morning. More, a bit later,
I imagine. Guess I need to edit, as well.
